Question Olympic Connections - present or past?

I heard on the radio this morning that the Olympic torch arrived in Cornwall, which got me to wondering if any of the folks here have any connections to the 2012 games or even to games past.

My maternal grandfather was a swimmer who competed against and lost to Johnny Weismuller in the 1920's, but never made the U.S. Olympic team.

When the games were in Atlanta, Georgia we drove through a town that had barricades along the roads on the torch relay route. We couldn't stay to watch the hubbub, though.

I have a strong aversion to crowds, so I doubt I would ever attend a Games, even if it were held down the street.

    What about you??

My first cousin rowed for Canada at the 1952 Helsinki olympics. I was just a little girl and knew that something exciting was going on but it was hard to understand what the olympics were. When a postcard came from him from Helsinki it was exciting. Not like today with tv, when everyone can watch the games. Canada does better in the winter olympics that the summer but hopemany people from here are in England to cheer our people on. Exciting!
