As a youngster I lived in South Warrington, Lancashire and never queried why I had no cousins although I knew that my parents had siblings. T'was only when I married and moved to North Warrington, now in Cheshire that I started to trace my family tree which was difficult on my father's side as he refused to talk about his family.
Roll on years later and I have more time to concentrate now on my husband's side of the family and have come to a brick wall on my mother in law's side.
My mother in law had forgotten that she had had two younger brothers that had died young, but despite her young age, the family had lived a hard life, always short of money and almost on the verge of poverty especially so after her father died. And that's basically the crux of the brick wall.
mum in law talks of him having 2 sons from his 1st marriage and that her mother did not know until after she was married to him as he was older than her. I can't find a birth or marriage to a first wife or his supposed sons or where he came from originally. I have traced all his children from his 2nd marriage and am completely stuck- even mum in law does not know either as she was just 4 when he died. All her siblings are now dead and at the age of 87 years old, cannot remember at all.
So really hoping that the experts on here might be able to tumble the wall for me..........
Ever hopeful

Hello GuidingMerlin - welcome to Brit-Gen

It is the family intrigue that makes this genealogy lark so interesting, isn't it? Have a look round and post the details of that brickwall (taking care not to mention any names of living - or potentially living - people) on the most appropriate forum and the super sleuths will take a crack at trying to topple it.
