Hyman {Morris or Morizt} from Hoodam in Germany cannot find Hoodam.,married Sarah Marks from Merse perhaps Merseburg {both Jewish} 12/12/1847.in Kingston upon Hull, have wed cert. Hyme born 1848 Hull .Morris must have had a quid . In 1850 he is in Little Falls Herkimer USA. 1861 Census he back in Liverpool Lucy born 1851 USA. Janette USA 1953. 1871 Census L/pool adds Rachell 1854.Bernard {my grandfather}1855 both Portsmouth.I have Louisa's details and know Bernard died in L/pool 1941. One clue re the US is Bernard remarried in 1897 in the Unitarian Church in Lowell Middlesex USA. I can find no trace of Moritz who we think died in the Boston area maybe Lowell. I was actually on a bus tour in 2006 that went past Lowell but we could not stop. Sorry its a bit long but this represents 10 years of searching. Thanks .Keith in Oz.

could it be a mis-spelling of HOOIDAM? That's actually in Friesland, Holland. You often come across Friesland, Germany so maybe it's just a simple mistake.

I've found the family in 1861 and 71. 61 doesn't state country of birth, Hoodam is the transcriber's interpretation of untidy writing. 71, says born Russia.

There's a Rachel Hyman (single) on 1910 US census, a servant in Manhattan, age 54, born England, parents born Germany.
