Default The Sax Horn Inn Beerhouse, Tipton

I understand that 36 Coppice Street, Tipton was a former family house which was licenced to be used as a beerhouse. I have learned that a gentleman by the name of John Henry Walker became the licensee there in 1905 & it has been suggested to me that it was possibly members of the Walker family who ran it until it closed down possibly in the 1970's.
Does anyone know any information about the Sax Horn Inn during this period of time please? I would like if possible to learn of who the licences were issued to & when the beerhouse finally closed down.
    Thank you.

    Hi Brock,

Try the Staffordshire Archive Service as your first port of call. They should have records of who the licencees were. If not, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

The 1924 & 1940 Kellys do not list the Sax Horn Inn, though the 1940 edition, as copied, is damaged and it might be on damaged part. However a John Walker is listed as at the Jolly collier Inn in 1940 in kellys, and hitchmough's pubs lists him as being there 1938-1940 . that is theone at 29 Leabrook Road, Ocker hill (there are two others. There is also a John thomas walker at The Barrel , Canal St, Tipton 1918-32, followed by Elizabetg walker 1932-38. Just adding that as you did say family and christian names do carry on in sons.

Hi Peter, I wonder if we may be connected to the same Ward family from Tipton then ~ I was born a Ward hence my enquiries into this line. My 2 x great grandfather was named Thomas Ward & he was born in Tipton in 1829, the son of William & Margaret Ward. Thomas Ward was one of 12 known children, the first 5 being born in Tipton & the rest born in Dudley. Thomas Ward married to Susannah Vanes.
