Confused with detail on Cornwall OPC site

1841 Census: Christopher (innkeeper) age 70 and Mary Edwards also age 70 at Carne HO107/142 (Part 5) Book 10 Folio 37 Page 10 with Hannibal 15 and Christopher 8 who may be grandchildren.

You may have dismissed this because of the change of occupation, but almost everyone had a go at mining at some time if their main occupation was a bit slow - or he may have been doing both, their nextdoor neighbour was a blacksmith.
Also because you were looking for Mary to be younger given her age in 1851 where she seems to have lost 10 years!

I haven't worked out the relationship between the Elder Hannibal and Mary but he must have been related somehow!

Today is not one of my better days and the medicarion ain't helping my thought process.

How can a couple in 1841 ages rounded down as 35 and with no children, lose 1o years off their age in 1851 and have 2 children - born 1842 and 1845 - be the couple that married July 1, 1827 in St. Uny, Lelant?

If my question doesn't make sense, I'm sorry. Going off-line for a bit.

I dont know why their ages were recorded wrongly in 1851 but in 1861 they are correct

with a visitor and a couople of boarders.
And if you look at Frances' baptism in 1842 on the opc site their residence is given as Polpeor - where they were in the 1841 census.

With what information Lesleys found it certainly appears that this looks like the right family.

Looking at the marriage of July 1, 1827 and them living at Polpeor in 1841 with no children seems to be most unusual for those times. Then they had the 2 girls in 1842 and 1845, so why wait 15 years to become parents?

Thinking that maybe there had been births prior to 1841 I searched the Cornwall OPC for Lelant and found a baptism for a Barnabas Thomas Richards on June 27, 1830. This fitted quite nicely into the mix as his father was John a blacksmith and mother was Mary. The residence was Longstone Down. There was no death for a Barnabas Thomas Richard between 1830 and 1841. I looked for him in 1841 and he was with what looked like his mother and grandmother and then in 1851 he was with his mother now a widow. The residence for both the'41 and '51 census was the same - Carniney, Uny Lelant. The '51 census reference is HO107, Piece 1917, Folio 266, Page 7.

I feel that this is more likely to be the result of the 1827 marriage than my John and Mary waiting 15 years.

I supect that Barbnabas was possible the son of John Richards & Mary Thomas who married 13 Apr 1814

This is the right marriage - but looking on the Cornwall OPC site the date is July 1, 1837

I can now proceed with this family now and disregard my blurb above.
