I am looking for the death of Catherine Geran in Ireland in 1996. Am I right in thinking that these records are not online? - this is going to be so flippin' frustarting!

Yes the index on familysearch only goes to 1958. There is a website showing recent obituaries at www.rip.ie but I think it only is this century. If you know the county I think you could contact the local registrar and ask for a photocopy of the death cert.
