It mentions 'early' families: Dudleys/Whorwoods/Nightingales and has bmd's for them from the 1500's and a brilliant Pedigree Family Tree of the Dudleys which would be of enormous help to anyone tracing that family. There's a Gervase Paganel who founded The Priory in 1161 and there are still 2 streets named after him today.

The only thing I can see for Coppice St is The Saxhorn Inn, mentioned under Public Houses Past and Present. In Owen St leading off Coppice St there are 7 Public Houses...lol

If you can give me any surnames you're after I'll have a look to see if they're in the book.

I would definitely give Smethwick Library a call - they've helped me in the past and are very helpful.

Hello Sheila, I wonder whether you might be able to recall what you spotted in that book re. the Sax Horn Inn in Coppice Street. It does seem that 36 Coppice Street was a licenced beerhouse with my ancestor being the licencee for the beerhouse from 1896 to 1900. There was a previous licencee by the name of Job Allen from 1871 until 1881 at the same house.
Should you be able to recall any information that you saw I would love to know please.
    Thank you.

Only returned book on Monday so will get it for you again - no problem but I think that's all it said as I mentioned in the above posting.

From Hitchmough's Black country pubs CD:
    SAxhorn Inn 36 Coppice St
    Licensees
    Job Allen 1871-81
    Henry Ward 1896-1900
    John Henry Walker 1905
Dates are when they were known to be there, not limits of the tenancy
there was an objection to its licence in 1903 because of insanitary conditions, ;acked accomodation & police supervision was difficult

    Hi
I'm new to this and just wondered if you found any pictures of Coppice Street, Tipton?
I have a book about Tipton in the old days and also live close by now if you wanted an up to date picture if you have the house number I could swing by and have a look for you.
