I have just recently gone back to the data I have on my maternal grandmother's Curry line, after several years, in an effort to update and fill in missing info, and would love some help with William Curry, the oldest known ancestor.

I have established that he was renting and occupying land on Wooler Common from at least 1798 onwards and was probably a shepherd. He married one Ann Hall and had around nine children, all born in Kirknewton according to the records, which I take to mean Kirknewton parish, as in the censuses they often give Wooler or Wooler Common as their place of birth. My problem is that I have not been able to establish his birthplace and date, as he was dead by the time of the 1841 census, or find his marriage to Ann. He was a Non-Conformist, which has made tracing baptisms and marriages very awkward, and shepherds moved around a great deal, too.

I have come across the baptism of a William Curry, July 1757, Yetholm, Roxburghshire, parents John Curry and Mary Davidson, but elsewhere on this forum, 'my' William has been attributed with a birth date of 30 Jan 1748, Chatton, Northumberland, and parents Thomas Curry and Margaret. His first child was born in 1777, which makes him almost 30 at marriage, if the latter date is correct. My gut instinct is that the Yetholm baptism is slightly more likely as there are connections with Roxburghshire through a number of generations of his descendants, but I can't prove this. I have been through the Bishop's transcripts for Kirknewton on FamilySearch but not had much joy finding his marriage, which might help to establish his birthplace. Does anyone have any suggestions where else I could look?
