Hi, I am new although I have asked a question or two awhile ago.
I am researching my family the Peppers from Peterborough northamptonshire, I have established a line with documents to Thomas Pepper and the members of his family however because the census records are from 1841 earlier information is inaccessable and I am in Australia.
Is there a contact that can verify available records for purchasing?

Is your Thomas PEPPER the one with parents John & Martha living in Dogsthorpe in the 1841 census? If so, from Northamptonshire Marriage Index 1837-60:

24 May 1852 at Peterborough St John Thomas PEPPER, of the parish (Westgate), bachelor, 24, Farmer, father John, Labourer & Sally ALLEN, of the parish (Boongate), spinster, age 23, father Thomas, Wheelwright.

Or is he the one with a father William who is a bricklayer. If so, from the same source:

16 October 1849 at Peterborough St John Thomas PEPPER, of the parish, bachelor, full age, Bricklayer, father William, Bricklayer & Elizabeth WRIGHT, of the parish, spinster, full age, father John, Brewer.

Going back a generation for the 2 Thomas PEPPERs from Northamptonshire Marriage Index 1700-1837:

22 October 1804 at Peterborough St John John PEPPER of Etton & Martha BARROW of the parish

Looking at the 1841 and subsequent census records, William PEPPER, Bricklayer, is married to a Catherine, but there does not appear to be a marriage in Northamptonshire for them. However, there is a marriage at St John on 30 August 1822 of a William PEPPER & Caroline SHELSTON, both of the parish. I wonder if that should read Catherine SHELSTON?

Unfortunately, the Soke of Peterborough is not on either the Northants Baptismal Index nor the Burial Index, but if you let me know which Thomas is yours, then I will look through the Peterborough records I have to see if I can dig up any further info.

Thank you for your replies, My Thomas Pepper is in the 1841 census - Boongate, St John The Baptist, Peterborough,
with Thomas & Elizabeth, children are Joshua, Felton, Robert and Thomas. for me this has been clearly established.
I have a marriage record 28 Dec 1859 for Joshua & Sarah Batchelor born 1830 Winchester, Hampshire. on the record Sarah's father is stated as John Batchelor from there?

I am at the moment trying to link Jane Felton Pepper to my Thomas Pepper, I do use ancestry.com and findmypast, so I am making some effort and not trying to rely on others, the subscriptions for these cost plenty.
Jane's Baptism/christening date 22 July 1821 father stated as Thomas and mother Elizabeth, I obviously need more proof.

From this I would guess that there are 3 brothers who are all in the building trade and that Jane Felton PEPPER and your Thomas PEPPER are cousins but will investigate further.

David, I don't know if you've noticed but at the end of an earlier thread of yours about the Peppers, a new forum member called John Pepper (descended from William Pepper & Elizabeth Felton who married at Peterborough in 1798) added a message to you. With the name Felton in your family it seems likely there's a connection somewhere. Though John hasn't logged into the forum since 2010, he is still a member so you could try sending a private message or e-mail if you haven't already made contact.

To add to what Coromandel has just found for you, from Northamptonshire Marriage Index 1700-1837:

24 April 1798 at Peterborough St John William PEPPER, of the parish & Elizabeth FELTON, spinster, of the parish by licence. These two seem likely to be the parents of Thomas, William & John Felton PEPPER.

And this looks the likely marriage of John Felton PEPPER, on 20 February 1821 at Peterborough St John, John PEPPER, of the parish, bachelor, & Mary FISHER, of the parish, spinster.

FMP have burial records for Peterborough, so I assume you do not need those.

Joshua's marriage is not on the Northamptonshire Marriage Index 1837-60 but apart from your Thomas's marriage to Elizabeth WRIGHT, there are:

19 October 1840 at Peterborough St John William PEPPER, of the parish, bachelor, full age, Labourer, father Thomas, Carpenter & Anne LOWDER, of the parish, spinster, full age, father John, Shoemaker

28 July 1845 at Peterborough St John Latimer ALLEN, of the parish, bachelor, full age, Turner, father Thomas, Hatter & Mary Ann PEPPER, of the parish, spinster, minor, father John Felton, Bricklayer

12 January 1846 at Peterborough St John John BARTON, of the parish, bachelor, full age, Cabinet Maker, father John, Cabinet Maker & Elizabeth PEPPER, of the parish, spinster, full age, father John Felton PEPPER, Bricklayer

Thomas & Elizabeth PEPPER, he who is the Carpenter turned Innkeeper by the 1871 census, are buried in Broadway Cemetery, Peterborough Blk 1 B33. Thomas was buried in March 1872 aged 71 and wife Eliza in June 1872 aged 77.

Can't find any trace of BA(T)CHELORs in Peterborough on the Baptismal Index or on the Marriage Index 1700-1837.

Well thank you for the information, whats with these people they are everywhere.
I had no idea to start with that there were so many and that they couldn't use different names, it does become confusing.
I rather need to rethink my searching and obviously concentrate on one person at a time.
