Hello everyone,
My name is Frank van der Weerden, I'm from Rotterdam; the Netherlands.
My middle name is Sidney.
I'm named after a British soldier my parents had met just after WWII in Rotterdam.
His name is (was?) Frank Sidney Holt. I was told that he lived West from London (Middlesex?) near a large hospital. He was married with two kids. I have no photo or other details. I phoned many years ago the British consul and I was advised to seek help from the Dutch war archive but with no results as they need info on which army group he belonged. I search in phonebooks during trips I made to London in the 80ties.
Unfortunatly I can's asked anyone anymore as my parents and other family members have passed away.
Anyone have any advice for me please?
I thank you in advance for your assistance.
Cheers,
Frank

Hi,
Looking at marriages from 1931 to 1946 I see a Frank S. Holt marrying a Maud Humpries in Edmonton ,Middlsex in 1931.Two children are born after this marriage in the period 1931 to 1946,these being a Joyce b.1932 and a Ronald b.1934.Could be the right person if you have any idea of his age roughly it would help or any other snippets?

A Frank Sidney Holt died in 2004 at the age of 90. His date of birth was shown as 28 Mar 1914.
This may be the corresponding birth -
Births Jun 1914 HOLT Frank S Earle Hackney 1b 982
This is likely to be the Frank Sidney Holt who is listed in the registers of electors in 14 Glengall Grove, Poplar. Also listed is a Rosena/Rosina Holt. This would be his mother.
I'm reluctant to suggest spending money on exploring that one further without a little more certainty that it's the right man. I'll think about this.

Hi Patten Walsh,
That's great news! Thanks a million. The only one who knew him pretty well was one of my aunties who passed away in 1972.
Another person also wrote and mention that a Frank S Holt passed away in 2004 at the age of 90 and his B/D was 28-03-1914.
I wonder if it's the same Frank S Holt. Thanks again.
Cheers,
Frank

Thanks a lot Peter, I had one more reply on a Frank S Holt married in 1931 in Edmonton with two kids....
At least I have some things to start with.
Cheers,
Frank

You're welcome. The only reason I provided that name was because it was the only full matching name that appeared. I don't know if it's yours. I'm not clear why the pattenwalsh thinks the 1931 marriage is likely.
Neither Edmonton nor Poplar is really west of London and nor is Brighton (where Frank Sidney Holt died in 2004)!

I suggested that particular marriage because Frank says that Frank Sidney Holt was married with 2 children and this was the only marriage I could find for a Frank S.Holt that produced 2 children after the marriage and up to 1946 which I take to be "just after the war".Pure speculation,I know, but any suggestion is always welcomed by enquiring members on this forum.

So long as Frank understands the uncertainty attached to both suggestions. We also bear in mind that there may have been a bit of a false trail laid.

Peter and Patten,
Thanks again both for your e-mails, thoughts, suggestions and concern. I started with nothing and at least I have something.
OK Edmonton is more Northwest from London and they might have move around the capital so who knows. It's a pity that my cousin knows nothing about her mothers friendship and there isn't a photo. I will try the several historical war societies over here to see if they have info. Last time I tried was way before the internet and getting zero so the search was put on a hold.
best wishes, Frank
