    Default where is 'Stately'?

my 4x great grandmother Catherine Pearce (sometimes Katherine, sometimes Caroline) is living in Hammersmith in 1851. She gives her place of birth as Stately, Berkshire - but I've no idea where this refers to. She's clearly not particularly literate so does it sound like anything else? Or could it be a general reference (maybe she was brought up on an estate?)? Many thanks for any help

    Could it have been Streatley?
It is about 8 miles (13 km) from Reading and about 16 miles (26 km) from Oxford.

OK, I've found her and the original does look like Stately but could be Streatley if you use your imagination.
Katherine Pearce, b. 1799, Stately, Berks.

    Smile brilliant!

this is great - thank you! It makes perfect sense as her husband was a fisherman, so the move to Hammersmith is clearly one along the river. Hopefully, I'll get somewhere with this!
