    Default Obituaries

    Hello,

I am in America and researching my Grandfather's famliy. He was born and raised in County Durham, where he and his family, for generations were coal miners. He came to America in about 1910 in his twenties and returned to England several times.

I am looking for 3 obituaries (1975, 1987, 2010), all occuring in County Durham and Sunderland.

Can anyone please help me by informing me whom I should contact for these obituaries? In America, one would contact the library in the county of the death - the local library contains the newspaper archives.

Thank you so much. I appreciate your help.

    Lisa

Googling brings up these papers & probably others where you can search online if death year is known, or there is a 'contact us' that you can use to ask your query.

    Locals may help more.

You may be able to find the 2010 obituary on the relevant newspaper's website. For example, the 'Sunderland Echo' site has a search tool (top right of page) which finds recent articles, including some 2010 obituaries:

For research in earlier newspapers you could try contacting the Local Studies Centre in Sunderland:
