Hi,
Have you found him on the 1901 Census? He might be difficult to find as he is entered as Stewart James and not James Stewart.

On the 1911 census James and Annie enter married 11 years no children born, so it looks like Annie is a second wife and Bertha A, Lizzie E and Sarah A (see post #3) are his children from previous marriage.
He states his place of birth as Glengarnock Ayrshire.If a picture paints a thousand words, a memory paints a thousand pictures.
