Just want to share my news. Earlier this year I was contacted by a unknown distant cousin who saw my post on a forum. When I say "unknown" I mean I had no idea that branch existed to the extent it did. We emailed back and forth, sent each other information about our branch of the family (my father's side) and met last week. She lives in Australia too but waaay over the west. It was fantastic. She said her sister lived in a certain suburb in Melbourne and we could meet there. I replied, oh yes, the only street I know in that suburb is Marma Rd because as a child I used to visit my grandmother there(from my mother's side). She emailed me back - "I grew up in that road". Arggh - amazing!!
Anyway, we swopped photos and I just LOVE those photos. Plus we drove around Melbourne and looked at old houses our ancestors lived in. I brought my sister, she brought her sister and we had a delighful time. (Plus I think we are "converting" our sisters into the joys of family history.)

Great news. I am sure you are both exceptionally pleased.
It is amazing what can be achieved with the various forums on the net.

Hey Louann
Isn't it fantastic to meet new rellies. I've just spent a few days in Madrid meeting a great half uncle who thought he was the only one and didn't know about 'us' lot.
I hope you took lots of photos and have some good memories of your visit and a new friendship to last a lifetime.

I had a great time last year when some distant American cousins came over. Our family branch split in 1863 when the nephew of my ggg grandfather emigrated there. It was good to swap photos and tales. Because our family still lives in the area I was able to show them exactly where their ancestor would have lived and worked and we were even able to get his apprenticeship records

louann..
What I find very fascinating when meeting "new" rellies is the family similarities you can pick up on, whether mannerisms, health issues, physical appearance, whatever. A few years ago a 3rd cousin once removed was travelling the world and dropped in to visit. He is my kids' age and one of the first things my daughter picked up on was how similar he was to both of her brothers..he was like the missing connection between the 2 of them! I hope you got lots of pictures to keep forever.

louann.
I am soo pleased for you, it must have been very special for you, I know, I have found a whole "lost family" as well. We all try and meet up from time to time and it is amazing the similarities that pass through families.
Wishing you all happiness.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful news Louann. To be able to share such stories is why we are so determined (and at times stubborn) with pursuing our genealogical research. Here's hoping you and your new found 'rellies' open lots of new avenues to add to your ongoing research.
Cheers,
