Oh gosh what a lot of work for your Monica. It is strange that the detach did not work even with the 2010 version. I have open my original 2009 instruction book and it does say that if you want to detach a child from a particular family have that particular family in view (in your case Richard LEWIS as the father), highlight Evan DAVIES and click detach child. The box should then open with the two families to which Evan is attached and you can then select the Richard LEWIS family to detach from. I would suppose that if this option is available in the 2009 version, it should still be there in the 2010 version, but I too have updated my version several times and can't really remember what was available in each particular version. Perhaps it didn't work because you tried to detach Richard LEWIS and presumably he was connected to the correct family (i.e. his parents) already - I probably didn't explain it as well as I should have, so apologies for that.
I'm not sure that any software is perfect but I am pretty happy with my FTM in the main part even though I have had some glitches with it. However, good luck with whichever software you decide to use in the end.
Janet

Oh My Janet - you are a Gem !! - I think you've absolutely hit on the solution !! Silly Me !! that's exactly what I was doing, I was highlighting Richard Lewis and the Evan Davies option was (now understandably) not there ............... Thank you so much, I've just done a "brave" test on my tree and your solution works - I have to say I did look at the Little Book of answers and misinterpreted that also.
Thank you so much, you have restored my faith in FTM - there even maybe an upgrade on the cards now !
