Hello linsch - welcome to Brit-Gen,

Do you have any further information, please? Approximate years of birth, the place name from where they moved south?

Thank you, Malcolm. I shall move the thread to the Staffordshire forum so as to attract folk who are researching that neck of the woods.

    1911 Census [RG14 PN16470 SN143]
    42 Henry Street, Tunstall, Staffs
    Thomas, widower, age 41
    Lilly age 18
    Beaty age 14
    Evelyn age 10

They were all born in Tunstall, Staffordshire and Thomas, Lilly & Beaty are potters.

There is another entry on the census return for Joseph Underwood, son, age 1 (or is it 4?) but this is crossed through with a note “deceased”.

The Staffordshire BMD website has a civil marriage at Wolstanton in 1891 of Thomas Underwood and Adeline Gilby. It also gives the following birth registrations in the Tunstall registration district, each with mother's maiden name Gilby:

    Joseph Underwood 1891
    Lily Underwood 1893
    Beatrice Underwood 1896
    Evelyn Underwood 1901

    This looks like Adeline's death:

Adeline Underwood, Woolstanton district, December quarter 1909, volume 6b, page 78, aged 40

    (Woolstanton covered Tunstall)

Okay, now I am very confused as there is a marriage on FreeBMD where there is a Thomas Underwood and Selina Rawlins on the same page: June quarter 1893, Stoke T, volume 6b, page 264.

With both Thomas/Adeline and Thomas/Selina having children of the same names, how confusing is that!
