Ahh Thank You. Would a Rope Splicer become a miner at over 28 years old ? Coz if not ive got the wrong relative.

The birth certificate of one of the children will give you the mother's maiden name and this will verify that you have the right marriage. Missing out a step is asking for trouble!

Okay thanks this is an ongoing story as a few untruths have been told throughout the family history

    My grandad was

William Turner (b) 28th April 1903, Tanfield, Lanchester, Co Durham.

    He married

Margaret Bowes (b) 16th Dec 1907, Medomsley, Co Durham.

    HIs father was also called

William Turner (b) 1864 exct date unknown for now.

He married on the 31st Dec 1892 The Parish Church Consett

    Martha Isabella Cowie (b) 1864 Sunderland ?

William (b) 1864 was supposed to have died in WW1 in Ypres 1915 according to my granddad William Turner (b) 1903

His father is down as John Morland Turner (b) unknown

On the 1911 census Marth Isabella Turner is down as being Widowed ? i do not belive this and think it is a cover up for some reason. The word Widow has been entered in a complete different handwriting to the rest of the entry, looks like an after thought.

I think I've found John and Mary Jane in 1881.

John is a 'Horse Shoer' which ties in with what you know from William's marriage certificate.
They are at 8 Railway Street, Ryhope Durham [RG11 4998/125 P72]
William is with them, age 16 (b about 1865) he and two of his brothers aged 15 and 13 are 'pony driver's....down the mines presumably. They seem to have moved about a lot, there are seven children altogether, all born in different places.

Would that be the Stockton or Bishop Middleham marriage then ?
