Assuming I have the correct person, do you have his service records from the National Archives?

    Sharp, Leslie Maurice Rundle
Date of Birth 16 May 1908
    Rank: Acting Sub-Lieutenant
    Date: 15 January 1922
    Catalogue reference: ADM 196/150

Note: click the link twice if you are not taken directly to the relevant record.

He is in the BMD index registered Jun qtr 1908 (Devonport registration district) and is in the 1911 census. There is also a death registration in 1996 (Isle of Wight registration district.)

    Hi

If I'm correct he was actually originally named Leslie Maurice Rogers Sharp, son of Maurice James Rogers Sharp and Daisy Simpson Rundle. I believe at some point he must have adopted his mothers maiden name. If I am right, his Grandfather was Eng. Admiral W Sharp and his father, Eng. Commander MJR Sharp DSO, was killed onboard HMS Recruit on 9th August 1917. The Birth Certificate would confirm/disprove this.

    Hi crimea 1854
It looks like the same person, I have a personal card from him to my mother around 1927, her Father was in in Ceylon Defence Force in Colombo where the Enterprise was in Dry Dock for some time.

    Gengrant

There is an extensive family tree on A******y, which includes a number of photographs of the Sharp family, including Leslie.

He would have been just under 14 and this would have been a typical entry age for naval cadets for that time period (12 to 14 years old.) So not too young!

Some info on midshipmen for you...
