Ann Major family

I have an ancestor named Ann Major of Romsey. In 1771 she married Alexander McCalpen in Romsey however I can't find any family for them.Where would Romsey parish registers be please as they could have names of family born to them.

Googling for those places will give you details such as addresses and opening hours.

Some of the registers have also been filmed by the LDS, so if you have a local FHC you can order in the film for viewing.

Search place-names, and type Romsey Hampshire. You should always select church records, and then parish registers, if possible. Indexes and transcriptions can contain errors.

but that was written in the context of which films to order at an LDS FHC, not with regard to something you can check at home.

My main county of interest is Lincolnshire - easily a three hour car journey away even on a M25 hassle-free day! - so I buy every index published by Lincolnshire FHS. It means that I can quickly see exactly which PRs/documents I need to check when I go to Lincoln Archives, instead of wasting time looking for a baptism in one village only to find that it occurred in a neighbouring one. So for me buying the indexes is extremely cost-effective.

If the cost of seeing the PRs (be it travelling to the Record Office or ordering in films) will be more than £8, then I would definitely recommend that you buy the CD.

Here I need to add something that anyone who buys something similar to this CD should bear in mind. You may find that there is absolutely no trace of the person/surname you're looking for, and therefore feel that you've wasted your money. On the contrary. If the cost of the CD is less than the cost of travelling to a Record Office or ordering films you have saved money. You have also saved yourself time.
