    Default Map of Leeds 1880-1890

    Hello,
I have been scouring the internet trying to find a map that names all of the streets in Leeds in the above-mentioned years. I understand that I will have to purchase this map but I'm not even sure what type of map to buy - ordinance map, town plan map, etc. The maps I did find will not allow me to enlarge them enough to see if the street names are on them. Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Thank you...
    Tamara

Have a look at the 'Tracks in Time' website, a.k.a. Leeds Tithe Map Project:

    https://www.
    tracksintime.wyjs.org.uk/

It allows you to compare tithe maps (1836-1851) with Ordnance Survey maps of c.1890 and c.1910.

    Some instructions might help:
    1. Click on 'Tithe Map Digital Resource' in left-hand menu
    2. Choose the township name from the drop-down menu labelled 'Jump directly to a specific township', and press 'Go'. I chose "Leeds, Leeds".
    3. Two maps are then displayed side by side. By default the tithe map is shown on the left and a modern map on the right, but you can use the tabs above each map to change the display. When the cursor is over the maps it changes to a grabby hand which you can use to pan around. There's a slider between the two maps to zoom in and out.

When you've sorted the locations out from the maps, you can see many images of old Leeds at

I'm just wondering whether you actually want a map just to see all the streets in Leeds or whether in fact you've got a query relating to a particular street or streets.

There is a list of all the streets in the Leeds Registration District for the 1891 Census here: https://yourarchives.nationalarchives...s_Street_Index - but do get back to us if it's about where someone may have been living.

Also don't forget the census itself, particularly the descriptions of the enumeration districts. Street directories can also provide information about the location of streets.

    Kelly's 1881 has a "Leeds Street Directory"

I see that Leeds Library has a Census Street Index: "All Leeds streets can be searched here and each entry gives the reference for each street in the census returns".
