    Default William Shepheard - Bridport

i am totally at a loss, hope someone can help.

My ancestor Frank Shepheard was born in 1875 in Bridport - i have just got his birth certificate, the father is William H Shepheard and the mother Charlotte Jane Shepheard formally Parker. I have searched for a marriage between William and Charlotte and cannot find one, the only marriage I can find is William Henry Shepheard married to a Charlotte Jane Bone.

I know he married after her death and from the marriage bann i found his fathers name to be James. so finding the mothers name to be Parker has totally mixed everything up.

Could it be that she was Bone before Parker and remarried William?

    William was a photographer.

    Any advice would be great.

Just so that we can orientate ourselves, do you mean Bridport?

Thanks, now we know we're in Dorset.

There's a William Shephard marrying in the Bridport district Q4 1858 (vol. 5a, page 853) which would fit nicely with the age of the eldest known child as per 1881 census (he's confirmed to be son of William & Charlotte Jane on baptisms on Ancestry). FreeBMD has only two others on this page, i.e. David Gould and Frances Sarah Stembridge. It looks like a case of a missing spouse.

Looking at the list of others marrying in the Bridport district in that quarter, there is a Charlotte Parker, but FreeBMD has her down as being on page 833. On the scan of the original page, it looks to me like it says 853. So I think this is probably the missing marriage and that Charlotte Bone is a red herring.

    P.S. the 1881 census reference is RG 11/2123, f.69, p.4

    I don't think so.

I think the return suggests* that Frederick is the son of William and Eliza J. Susan is Frederick's great grandmother.

    Does Eliza J = Charlotte J?

*there are other interpretations but I think that's a reasonable inference.

thanks for the advice, the problem is i have also found a William and Charlotte living in Plymouth of the correct ages although with no Fredrick... Piece: 1441, Folio: 47, Page Number: 36

he seems to be a hard one to track. on the above census he is a plasterer and on the one where he lives with susan lily he is ?? maker. by the birth of his son Frank he is a Photograher
