Where did you see details of this index?
When I did a google search for "Chronological Marriage Index 1538 - 1837" I found only a list of marriages for the surname of Hatherell + variants. It seems to have been done as part of a one-name study by someone with connections to Bristol University.

Gloucestershire FHS Marriage Index 1800-1837 shows nearly 2 pages worth of male HOLDER marriages (abt 150 upwards) alone and this excludes the Bristol area, so it would be a massive undertaking for anyone to search without narrowing down the search parameters considerably. If you have specific names and dates, I am happy to look for you.

If you also have a few names or towns/parishes, this would help.

    Hi Janet,
    Thanks for your assistance.
Our ancestor James Holder born abt 1820 in Uley, Gloucester came to Australia after discharge from the British Army (Regiment of Foot) about 1852. He married in 1861, parents names were: Benjamin Holder and Sarah Mathews.
I am hoping to find Benjamin and Sarah's ancestors (parents, grandparents et al), occupations.
James remained in Australia as a farmer and died in Taree NSW in 1895. He is my great-grandfather.
    Kind regards
