    Default Turner Block

    Hello all, heres me problem

I cant get further than my Grandad William Turner (b) 1903 Lancester, Co Durham

i cant find him on 1911 census

i cant find his father who was also William Turner and who we were told died in a Mustard gas attack 1915 Ypres serving in Durham light infantry However first Mustard Gas attack was Sept 1917 ??

my grandad told us that he had to go down the mines to keep the house however he would have been only 12 year old ???

He had a sister Martha and sister Jane younger than him

He married Margaret Bowes 1928 in Medomsley Co Durham

There are a lot of inconsistancies with the stories i have been told and am now at a loss

    Any help welcome thanks

Do you mean one of these?

    Births Mar 1903
    Turner William Lanchester 10a 343
    Births Jun 1903
    Turner William Lanchester 10a 364

What exactly is the brick wall? What does his birth certificate say?

There is a William TURNER b 1903 in 1911 with a sister Martha 1898 and younger sister Lizzie Jane 1905, plus othe siblings Emily 1906,and John 1908 BUT, they are with widowed mother Martha b1872 who runs a boarding house in Ebchester, Durham.

I only mention this because you say there are lots of inconsistancies in the stories you've been told.

Were any family members witnesses to his marriage? Do you know who sisters Martha and Jane married?

they are with widowed mother Martha b1872
To be precise, Martha I Turner who claims 18 years of marriage (despite being widowed). I would hazard a guess that this marriage would be worth looking at -

    Marriages Dec 1892
Cowie Martha Isabella Lanchester 10a 444
    Sinclair Hannah Lanchester 10a 444
    Turner William Lanchester 10a 444
WELSH Robert James Lanchester 10a 444

However, the questioner needs one of the birth certificates first before ordering a marriage certificate.

I see that census entry shows the children's birthplace as Hamsterley which doesn't really tie up with Lanchester, but hey ho we don't rely on census entries do we?

My point was that Hamsterley wasn't in the Lanchester registration district.

I dont have a birth cert for my Grandad William Turner 1903 so cant say whats on it as im not sure if 10a 364 343 is his as i would have to pay over £18 to get the certs from the GRO

The block is i c ant find his mother or father or him on 1911 census

Its not the boarding house wifey as sisters were all younger than him and Martha is widowed ?
