Has anyone got access to irish birth records. I`m trying to find where my g-grandmother was born.
Not much information to go on, just her name was Catherine Lalley/Lally born 1835 in Ireland, emigrated to Canada sometime before 1855, could be during the potato famine.
Married my g-grandfather in Quebec City in 1856 at that time he was in the army attached to the Royal Canadian Rifles.
They came to England 1869/70 and lived in Cambridgeshire for the rest of their life.

Can find baptism records for a Catherine Lally 1833 Co Galway,1834 Co Galway,1835 (2 records ) Co Galway,1836 Co Galway & 1837 Co Tipperary.
Any of these could be for her. No records found with Lalley spelling.

There is also a record of a Catherine Lally aged 18,on the ships passenger lists from Ireland in 1851(so born 1833) which may tie in with the 1833 baptism.
Al these records are searchable using rootsireland.ie (usual www. infront) free to search but pay to view if you want to look at details of a record. Can get very expensive if you pick the wrong records as they charge 5 euros a time!

Statutory registration of births only started in Ireland in 1864 so you won’t get a birth cert for Catherine. You might find her baptism, if the records have survived. But to do that you really need to know her denomination and her townland or parish in Ireland. Only some baptisms are on-line, and many parish records have been lost, and so care is needed to avoid jumping to any conclusions about any apparent match.
I’d search all the relevant censuses in England (and Canada if she was there when one was taken) to see if you can get a more exact place of birth. Though they often just say Ireland, sometimes you get more than that, a county parish or townland. Her marriage cert should give you one or both of her parents names which would be a useful cross-check with any baptisms you may find.ELWYN
