The birth certificate of one of their children will give you the father's full name.

Where have you got the name Edwards from?
There is the following marriage on FreeBMD which could be your Clara
Cheesman Clara Sep qtr 1904 W.Ham vol 4a page 187.
On the same page is an Ernest Clark
According to the 1901 census Clara was living in Westham at that time. RG13/1618/138/page 31 Crown Copyright TNA
The above marriage then leads on to the following 1911 census:
Clark Ernest 28 Warehouseman b.Hackney
Clark Clara 24 b.Hackney
Clark Ernest 5 b. Walthanstow
Clark George 3 b.Leyton
Clark Frank 10 mnths b.Leyton
There are also 4 lodgers living with them. RG14/9658/SN283 Crown Copyright TNA

I was working on the same couple as notanotherminer, and found a death for Ernest Clark 1913, also a marriage for a Clara Clark to Ernest Edwards.
Death West Ham, Ernest Clark, Jan-Mar 1913. 4a/354, age 30.
Marriage West Ham, Clara Clark to Ernest Edwards, Apr-Jun 1918.'Friends are the family we choose for ourselves'.

Just as an aside, without wishing to derail the thread ...
I don't think so. Only if for some special reason both names were given in the marriage register (e.g. in the case of a divorcee).
Local BMD indexes are another matter. For second marriages they do often give a maiden name, normally derived from the father's name as stated in the register.

I got the name EDWARDS from a Grave Registration form that Clara had signed. She was signing over a family grave to my grandfather.

It's what happens when people don't work systematically and try and jump over essential steps in the process.it would explain why she couldn't find the marriagePeter Goodey
