Default Struggling to find a 1911 census record

    Hi

Really hoping someone can lookup some information for me, it seems to be available on FindMyPast but I just can't see it / find it with Ancestry.

It relates to the family and whereabouts of William Holland b.1846 in Devonshire (Barnstaple) on the 1911 census

Any help would be really really appreciated.

If I can reciprocate some help (for you) somewhere else, then I'd be more than happy. Just let me know

    Cheers

Can you confirm what is on FindMyPast, and not on Ancestry?

I assume you've looked him and his family up on the actual 1911 census website?

If I look on FMP for the 1911 census record it comes up with one hit. I'm subscribed with Ancestry but when I do the same it doesn't find that record. Apparently, Ancestry may not have transcribed all the information yet so, in this case, FMP is the only place to get it.

A bit double-dutch..... does it make sense ?

You know that FMP lookups are not permitted?

Have you got an idea of where he might be in the Barnstaple registration district? Where was he in 1901?

No, he's previously been in London which is why I've struggled to find him.

Just annoying the same info isn't available (or is missing) from Ancestry.

I thought we were able to give info from 1911 census as long as acknowledgement of crown copyright TNA was given?

It's part of the Terms & Conditions of FMP.

According to this site there is access to Findmypast in Hampshire libraries:

It's fiddly, but you can often find unindexed household schedules on Ancestry.
For William, select the England summary books.
Enter surname, Devon for the civil parish/county, and based on the 1901 census try 1 male and 1 female in the household.
As William says he was born in Barstaple, for a guess he may well be the Mr Holland in Barnstaple, or failing that in another place in the Barnstaple registration district. http://www.
    ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/barnstaple.html )
Click view record, on the left-hand side of the page and make a note of things such as civil parish, registration district, and the various number references.
Then go back to the main census page, and select England 1911 census.
On the right-hand side of the page, use the 'browse' boxes to select the relevant county, civil parish, etc.
Then it's case of working your way through the images - though you soon learn that you only need to click every other one.

Ooh - talking of 'every other one' just made me think - at the top of the record page there's a household schedule number. Try doubling it, and then going to that number image. (It worked for the Mr Holland in Barnstaple for me.)
Otherwise, go backwards or forwards one page from the doubled number.

ADDED: When doing the initial search in the summary books on Ancestry, I forgot that there is also a box for the registration district, so you can enter Barnstaple, which will automatically limit your results to the correct area.

    Pam
