I am looking for the original record for John Hassell's marriage in the hope that this will provide information on his birth and parents.
I have found the following from FamilySearch to date:
spouse: Mary Eldred
groom's name: John Hassell
bride's name: Mary Eldred
marriage date: 25 Nov 1792
marriage place: Saint Nicholas,Colchester,Essex,England
indexing project (batch) number: M13795-2
system origin: England-ODM
source film number: unknown
Many years ago I found the IGI reference of p5204 but I am now not sure what this means.
John and Mary had the following children:
George b 31 Mar 1799 Stamford, Lincs, Priscilla, Euphemia chr 1804 St Swithins, Lincoln, Joseph chr 5 Jan 1809 St Swithins, Lincoln, and Henry.
Is anyone else researching this line who may be able to help?
And what is the best process for me to order a copy of the marriage record?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi David.
Have a look on SEAX. They have marriage registers for Saint Nicholas, Colchester 1754-1812 and at the side of the page you will see that images are available online by subscribing to Essex Ancestors. See here for the register details.
Hopefully the link will take you directly to the relevant page; if not the document reference is D/P 176/1/5
Note: You need an account and a subscription to view images and further Information can be found here...

seax.essexcc.gov.uk/EssexAncestors.asp
Edit: A marriage entry for this date is unlikely to contain information on parents or birth. See here for typical information recorded in marriages registers for this period. However, it is always worth viewing the original entry.

Hi Olliecat
I am most amazed at your rapid and helpful reply.
Within 2 hours of me posting, your response allowed me to visit SEAX and understand the extent of records available.
As an overseas researcher I was not required to register, and I was able to order a CD by completing and posting an Order Form -13 pounds for1 CD. Payment seems to be able to be made by credit card - fingers crossed.
I have been searching Ancestry, FamilySearch, Genes Reunited and many others for years without success.
I am incredibly grateful for your help which hopefully has brought to an end this longstanding search.I would be happy for you to copy this to a "success stories" forum on this site, if there is one.

Hi again David.
I am glad that you are pleased but a CD I believe will contain images for a single parish. With a subscription you can browse images from different parishes, which I though might have been useful if you wanted to search for a baptism for John or Mary, (assuming that one or both were born in Essex.) Also, for future reference, for an entry where you know the exact date and parish you can order a photocopy of the entry. I should have mentioned the photocopy option as this would have probably worked out cheaper for you. My fault!!!
Do let us know when you have the marriage information.

Did you miss daughter Mary out?
Have you seen the original baptism entries of their children. If not, you may want to check out the St. Swithin baptism registers on the lincstothepast site...
www.
lincstothepast.com
I've only looked for a couple of the children baptism entries in case you have already seen them.
Euphania Hassell baptism 23 Jan 1804..

Mary Hassall baptism 11 Nov 1806...

(How I wish mothers' maiden names were included on all CoE baptism registers)

Hello Olliecat
As I understand it, the subscription option allows me to browse at Essex Record Office, something I am not able to do.
Am I correct in that assumption?
I was going to post my CD order tomorrow am, so perhaps I should investigate the photocopy first.
I did not spot that option on SEAX but will investigate.
Thanks again for your help.

Hello again Olliecat
Yes, I've missed Mary.
Amazingly, I have copies of several 1828 letters between some of Euphemia's siblings which is how I have their names, along with information from family members in UK.
Thank you for the lincstothepast links which I have quickly perused.
What is the process for searching additional siblings?
Again, I am incredibly grateful for your assistance.

A subscription allows you to view digital images of parish registers online. To quote from the Essex Ancesters main page...
""Where images are available, they are free to view in the Essex Record Office searchroom. To see images of parish registers and wills online, you will need to register and buy a subscription. "
For futher information see their User Guide or FAQ.
Also, in the Alternatives section of the FAQ page, there is some information on obtaining photocopies. You will need to email them for a form, and this should include cost information. Then you can decide which option will work out cheaper, a subscription or a photocopy. If/when you request a form, to reassure yourself, why not ask for confirmation that they have images availabe online for St Nicholas (via a subscription).

You have to browse through the images. Unfortunately the registers for this parish appear to be jumbled and out of order and it doesn't help that some scans are upside down or sideways. Here are three other baptisms for you...
Baptism of Joseph at St. Swithin on 05 Jan 1809...
www.
lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=517930&iid=480296
Baptism of Priscilla at St. Swithin on 07 Jun 1801
www.
lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=517930&iid=400025
Is this George?
Baptism of ? HASSELL at St. George Stamford on 31 Mar 1799
(Note: the first name is completely obscured due to damage at the edge of the page.)

lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=543976&iid=290009
Just so you know the process I used to find Joseph's baptism - I first checked the baptism date on Family Search, which was the 05 Jan 1809 at St Swithin. Since Mary's 1806 baptism is on image #45 I browsed through subsequent images until I reached image #50, which lists the baptisms for 1809. Knowing in advance an exact date does make it easier, otherwise you have to look through the records one image at a time.
Since we don't have any idea of Henry's baptism date then finding his baptism will be difficult and I can't see anything on Family Search. Browsing through the images for St. George, Stamford and St. Swithin is one option but there is no guarantee he was baptised in either of these parishes. Also, since John and Mary married in 1792 then he could have been an older child, possibly born/baptised in Essex. So far the first baptism we have is 7 years after their marriage.
