    Default William Ellison or Elliston

I have traced my G G Grandfather William Ellison or Elliston to living in Great Alne Warwick between 1823 and his death in 1846 (aged 46 from Burial records in GRO) Death Certificate can't be found. The 1841 census says "not born in this County" when he was living in Warwick. He married Anne Hobday in 1823 at Coughton Church Warwick. She was born in Inkberrow Worcs around 1801. I guess William was born 1798-99 in Worcs. but can't prove it. Any ideas please?

    Hello Ken,

Have you ruled out this death registration?

September quarter 1846, Birmingham district, volume 16, page 284, William Bow ELLSON

He married Anne Hobday in 1823 at Coughton Church Warwick
What does the marriage register say?

    Have you considered this

    WILLIAM ELLISON
Christening: 24 NOV 1799 Grendon, Warwick
    Father: JOHN ELLISON Mother: ELIZABETH
    Batch P016731

I know the 1841 census says not born in county but it is often wrong as most people could neither read nor write.

Thanks so much Jan. I think Birmingham is in Warwick - hence does not meet the "not born in this county" criteria

    regards

Hi Ken - a bit confused, now. If he died in Warwickshire (you are right - Birmingham is in Warwickshire), that would have no relation to the 1841 census saying that he was not born in the county. Deaths were registered in the place where the person died, not where they were born.

    Or am I missing something....

Thank you Peter, again does not meet the criteria of not born in this county. Marriage cert says otp - of this parish since he had lived in Great Alne for a period of time before marrying. A long shgot is that as he worked on the Coughton Estate in Warwick owned by the Throckmorton's, he may have moved from another of thair estates to Warwick. Thank you so much for your interest

Hi again Jan, you are confusing me too - but then I am easily confused! William was mentioned in 1841 census as not born in this county (Warwick). He was buried in Warwick in 1845 aged 46 - can't find ref to a death cert. I agree no relation between the events and of course deaths were registered in place of death not birth.

    That's okay.

By the way, you can order all birth, marriage and death certificates from anywhere in the world by using the GRO. Click here and follow the links. The references that I provided are GRO references and you should be able to use them.
