I am researching my grandfather THOMAS THOMAS who was gassed and left for dead in ( I think) 1918.
Although he enlisted for DLI the medal roll has pte 42741 discharged cat Z from West Yks Regt.in 1919.
The "long ,long trail "has been just that! I gave up and decided to try this as another route.
The 1/8 were transferred to 185 Brigade,62nd Division in 1917 ?and were in the Marne battle. I wonder if anyone can help in trying to get more information about the gas attack. Also his rescue was according to family stories, unusual in so far as he was found by accident in a heap of blackened bodies by a passerby who noticed some movement.Apparently this was an effect expected from mustard gas.
