The reference for Bakehouse Yard, Warrington in the 1851 census is HO107 Piece 2203 Folio 179 Page 1

Only 2 people are listed there:

John Hamblet, Head, married, age 23, chimney sweep, born Manchester
Charlotte Hamblet, wife, married, age 23, ‘House’, born Warrington

    Does this answer your query?

There is also a Bakehouse Yard in Warrington at: The National Archives; HO 107/2203 ff 674-677.

My knowledge of Warrington isn't good enough to work out which is the right one.

In this case you've been provided with some answers above. But in general terms, and for next time ...

Some census providers offer an address look-up facility. If yours doesn't, you can (for the time being) use the free online Census Street Indexes at the National Archives wiki Your Archives to find the piece/folio numbers to look at in each census.

These census street indexes are available for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1891, provided the population for the registration district was over 40,000 at the time.

Incidentally, Your Archives in its present form is shortly to be withdrawn, as it's apparently not consistent with the 'seamless user experience' that TNA wants to provide. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, this news announcement relates.

I thank you for trying to help, but I'm afraid i do not understand what to do with the codes from the Nat' Archives or for that matter what or where the National Archives are. You see I have marriage cert. and birth cert for my great grand parents, the addresses of their parents was listed and I thought if I could find the census reports, I could fill in some gaps in the family tree.

    Can you please

    1. Post to this thread all the details from both certificates (including the district and sub-district).

    2. Tell us which census provider you are using.

Then it should be easier for us to help you.

I have a Marriage Cert. for the marriage of John Curboy aka Corboy and Mary Royan aka Ryan. They were married Oct 21, 1849 at St Peter's Chapel, Warrington, Lancaster. John's father is listed as William living at Scotland road, Warrington and Mary's father Michael living at Bakehouse Yard, Pig Hill, Warrington. Ellen Curboy Birth Cert. Born May 28, 1851 Parents living at 4 Mear Town Hill, Warrington. Handwriting was bad Mear maybe Near or something like it. Ellen married 1868 and parent still shown at Scotland road. I use Ancestry.com for my research. Want to find 1851 census for family. starting to wonder if i have right family matched up with Ellen. thank for any help you can give.

The family appear to be in Bake House Yard in 1861
    Ref: The National Archives; RG 9/2792 f 105 p 16

In 1851 the parents were at Town Hill (Ellen would not yet have been born)

    Ref: The National Archives; HO 107/2203 f 234 p 56

Thanks for posting the names and details.

The UK census returns are held by the National Archives, and each census page has a unique reference number. Peter has provided these references to enable you to find the addresses you need.

Here's how to use the references to access the images on Ancestry.com ...

    Go to UK Census Collection
Scroll down and select 1851 England Census
On the Search page, ensure the Show Advanced option is open (this may be a small green link top right). This gives you some extra boxes to fill out at the bottom of the Search form.

In the Piece box, enter 2203
In the Folio box, enter 234
In the Page box, enter 56
    Ignore all the other boxes
Search, and select the image for the family indexed wrongly as CORMBY (but actually written COURBY).

On the 1861 England Census search page, you can then repeat the process with the 1861 reference numbers given by Peter for Bakehouse Yard. This time the family is indexed (wrongly again) as CORRBAY.

Let us know if this works for you?

Thank everyone for their help. I found both records and they verify some facts I was not sure of. As the surnames were wrong in both census, I would never have found them. Neither of the errors were usual versions of the surname. Afraid I'm very good with US records, I start having problems with the UK records and the Irish records drive me insane.
    Thanks again.
