Hi: I just received a copy of the death certificate of my great-grandfather -- actually step-great-grandfather -- Henry Daniels, who died February 11th 1944. According to the cert. his place of death was "Albert House, Albert Street, Slough U.D." But his residence was elsewhere, specifically 2 High Street, Iver, Bucks, an address I know well from my earliest childhood in the late 40s.
My problem is that I've been unable to find out what Albert House was. There seems little about it on the Internet. Could it have been a hospital? Any help would be much appreciated.

It seems the Eton Union Workhouse was known as Albert House. Have a look at the following link for a history of the place...
www.
workhouses.org.uk/Eton/
To quote from the above...
"In 1906, the Board of Guardians were authorized to spend £7,700 on the erection and fitting out of a separate infirmary at the west of the workhouse."
"After 1930, the site was redesignated as a Public Assistance Institution known as Albert House and was under the control of Buckinghamshire County Council.
After 1948, the site became part of the National Health Service under the name of Upton Hospital."
Similar information can be found here.

Further information on the records available for Eton Workhouse/Upton Hospital can be found via the Hospital Records Database here. (Click the link twice if necessary.)
For example, the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies hold these records...

Clinical & Patients 1837 - 1948.
