I have extracted these posts from the Introduce Yourself and Surname Interests forums to the London forum, so that members can reply more easily.

I hope the following is of help and will get the ball rolling!!

Harry David Mudd's birth was registered in Fulham in the Jan-Mar q. 1905 -vol. 12 page 288.
If you haven't got this, then I suggest you order it from the GRO. It will provide much more detail than the birth index registrtation [ie. where born details of his mother and possibly a father as well]

I was not successfull in actually locating him in the 1911 census, howver he may been missed or included in the following which had a great many people in it. It was located on Myrtle Street, Liverpool. It would appear to be a combination of hospital, workhous and training school. The part of the institution he was in at the time of his departure to Canada was indicated as the Liverpool Sheltering Home.
From FMP I found the Passenger List and he was embarked along with a party of 46 boys of various ages on the March 22, 1922. One boy from the original list of 47, has a line through his name. The boys went 3rd class. He is indicated on the passenger list as Henry.. All the boys were indicated as following an occupation in Canada as working on farms.
The ship was called the Montcalm - the Caprain was Captain Webster. It was owned by Cananadian Pacific, had registered tonnage of 9789 tons and there were 1031 passenger when the ship departed Liverpool.

Upon arrival in Canada, a form 30A was completed and signed by Henry. It confirmed his age [7] and place of birth as per the registration noted above. He indicated that he was a scholar and was following an occupation in farming. He stated he could read and write [English only] His fare to Canada was paid by the Anne MacPherson School of Industry and while had no money on his person, he did have a railway ticket to Belleville, Ontario, where he was destined for the Marchemont Home. This was either a stopping place before he went to work or is the name of the family he was to work for.

He also indicated that his closest living relative in England was his mother - and this is how I read her details from the form - Mrs. Ridgely, 19 Beleford Street, Fulham

With luck others can provide further assistance.

    Colin

London Electoral Registers for 1922 have Alfred and Daisy RIDGLEY at 17 Delaford Street, Fulham (together with Arthur and Elizabeth WARE).

This double-entry birth in Fulham in 1922 probably relates ...

    Births
    Mar Qtr 1922
Mudd Daisy M mother's maiden name Prentice Fulham 1a 473
Ridgley Daisy M mother's maiden name Prentice Fulham 1a 473

If this is the right family, perhaps the mother Daisy was originally a PRENTICE, then married a Mr MUDD

    Marriages
    Jun Qtr 1903
MUDD Walter James Fulham 1a 792
Oliver Emilie Hirman Fulham 1a 792
PRENTICE Daisy Kate Fulham 1a 792
Stedham Charles Mason Fulham 1a 792

I can't immediately see a marriage for Daisy to Alfred RIDGLEY, nor yet a birth for Harry/Henry ...

Daisy K PRENTICE is found in 1891 in Kensington, aged 7, with a father named Harry D PRENTICE, which looks encouraging.

I will leave you to investigate further.

This would fit with her being the Daisy Kate Prentice whose birth was registered Q4 1884, Fulham district. The death of a 63 year old Daisy K. Mudd (not Ridgley!) was registered Q1 1948, Ealing district.

I must be even more myopic than I thought.
