In the Phillimores transcriptions for the Parish Register of St Ives Cornwall, the 1805 marriage my GGG Grandparents John Ley and Elizabeth Ellis is listed twice, the first date, 28 Feb and then again on the 25 March with (see 28 Feb) written after it, so I thought it may have been a transcription error, but looking at the original Family Search images of the Register, the same two entries are there also, does anyone have a clue as to which one would be the correct wedding date, as both entries are identical as far as I can see.
Thanks,
Hugh.

Hi
Could the first entry be the marriage banns and the second entry the marriage date, I think the banns were read out on Sundays for some three to four weeks before the marriage took place

You really need to look at the original register. Phillimore transcribes more than the IGI but even so it's not complete.

I apologise for not reading your message properly - you're saying that Familysearch has images of the original PRs.
I've had a look at the images (and indifferent quality they are too!) and the second entry specifies that banns were called on the 10th 17th and 24th of March. Therefore the 25 March marriage entry would appear to be the valid one.
I can't spot the words "See 28 Feb" in the original image. Presumably this was just Phillimore being helpful.Peter Goodey

Thanks Peanut and Peter, looks like you are both right, I think I need new glasses Peter, I didn't notice the banns dates on the second page and talk about indifferent quality, have a look at the register for Illogan if you want a challenge, I don't think that transcribing registers is my forte.
Thanks to you both.
Hugh.
