At a glance, the name looks like Alexander, perhaps written by someone who wasn't too hot on spelling.

I'm sure Peter is on the right lines. The letter after the d is definitely r (compare with the r at the end of Master).

You could try looking for ALES(S)ANDRIA, or similar?

In spite of my earlier suggestion, now that it's been pointed out I think I'd go along with the surname starting with "Al-". Time for an eye test?? Or just ?

Just a thought, as the card is addressed to 'Master', it could have been sent to a grandchild of the householder - the Bean family have at least 8 children. Did any of the Daughters marry a Mr Alexander?

Their son is a William Bean Alexander born 1907 (age 4) in Gateshead, Durham

William Alexander married Alice Bean in September 1905 at Tynemouth. 10b/486

Well... at least they are on the same page together so I presume they did.

September 1906 gives a birth of William Bean Alexander at Gateshead. 10a/1073

Do you think he may be Master William?

Brilliant Mutley, that is what I was going to look for but ran out of time last night.
