Default Photograph of School Teachers and Children

I have just found a wonderful photograph of my ancestors. Its a school class photo of which I believe my relative was the teacher. Although to confirm this I would need to know around about the year of the pic.

Does anyone know anyone that specialises in period photographs, I would love to know!

If this is the 19th century, then Dating 19th Century Photographs is the book fo you.

However, if you could scan the photograph and save it to somewhere like Photobucket, you would be able to post a link to it on the forum. Instructions are here. Many of our members are pretty good at dating them.

So as to attract their attention, I shall slide this over to the Photographers and old photographs forum.

I may be completely wrong but the hairstyle of the young lady looks awfully similar to that in this 1909 photo from Roger Vaughan's site (but then what do I know about women's hairstyles.....).

I would also say about 1910. The collars of the dresses, the ribbons in the long hair, the (what looks to be) hobble skirt of the teacher.
Hair and dresses became shorter in the next decade or so. The little girl at the right end of the second row up is wearing a very fashionable collar but it is sometimes difficult to know if she is wearing her older sisters cast offs which would then make it a bit later.

I notice a couple of the girls seem to be wearing glasses. They are very easy to date if they could be enlarged.

Thank you for all your advice, I think you are right.

we think that the teacher on the right of the school photo is the same woman as the single photo as we have an ancestor who was a teacher although have never found any evidence of this until now
