Default The Welch Regiment 1899 - 1902 Boer War

Hi there guys. I need some help. I've been trying to find out my great grandfathers military record and was hoping someone could help. I'm a member of ancestry.co.uk but can't find any military records on him concerning the 1899 - 1902 second Boer war. My dad says he was in the Boer war and stationed somewhere near Rorkes Drift. Let me give you some facts about him. His name is Joseph Parker and he was born in Aberdare, South Wales in 1881. In 1899 at the start of the war he would have been 18 and he resided in Pontypridd, South Wales. I know that if he'd enlisted rather than being conscripted he would have joined the local regiment which would have been the Welch Regiment but I can't find any record for him. Any help on this subject would be very greatful. Cheers guys and thanks for listening

There are a lot more army record on Findmypast including those for the Boer War.

I had a quick look but could not see any Joseph Parker / Welch Regiment.

He may not have ended up fighting in a local regiment. In World War 1 my great uncle living in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, enlisted in the Welsh Regiment but was transferred to the North Staffordshire, sent to Gallipoli with them and died there.

I would recommend that you have a look around FMP and see what you can find.

Could one of these be your Joseph?
