    Default Lost Burial

I have been trying for years to find out where my Mothers baby sister is buried in our local churchyard it was in1910,,I have the details in one of the Burial Pages that Ancestry let your have,so I tried the Vicar,no all the records have gone to LMA,so I e mailed them, they have a brief look but didnt see anything but suggested I go there, not possible,or pay them £50 an hour to search,I feel that these records are public property ,I have no problem with 2 other cemeteries near us in looking for things, one is even nearing completion of a special room to look up records in,with a computer !so why is it so hard to find this little mites reasting place.

I'm afraid I can't work out what that means. Are you saying that you have found a record or not?

If you post the details of the burial that you're looking for, perhaps someone here will work some magic and provide the answer.

Sorry I will explain again, you can get the actual view of the Burial Page from Ancestry, which I have, all the details are there of the date and name ok,but I wanted to go to the Cemetery and look where the grave was, which we have done many times and asked the Vicar, but it seems you cant get a grave reference as to where it is in the Cemetery unless you pay LMA,its only a very very small cemetery, mostly overgrown of course,as they are,but a lot can be seen, the odd thing is,is that I also have 33 other family tree ancestors buried in same cemetery and there is not one grave with there name on anywhere ! So what I was wanting was an actual grave number or plot location to see where she is,

    Its Mabel Victoria Speck
Date of burial Dec 1910 at Holy Trinity Church East Finchley burial register number 2950

The online catalogue seems to be down at the moment but from other sources it looks as if what you need is one of these -

Index of graves in old part of churchyard X095/853
    18-- 19--
    P81/TRI2/027

Index of graves in new part of churchyard X095/853
    18-- 19--
    P81/TRI2/028

Index of graves in new part of churchyard X095/853
    1913 19--
    P81/TRI2/029

They are all on the same microfilm, X095/853 and don't appear to have been digitised. Perhaps they will be eventually but I don't know what the plans are.

As you've been advised, you would have to go to LMA yourself and search the microfilm or get someone else to do it for you. As you seem keen on also tracking down other family members' graves in the same churchyard, I would have thought it would be worthwhile setting aside a couple of hours.

THank you very much for looking ,as I won't be going there I shall have to wait and see if they do digitise them. Many thanks though

You are very lucky to find that there is an index of graves. In most cases this does not exist - only the entry in the burial register to say that it happened. For the vast majority of burials in the past, there will be no record of grave location and no headstone as the family would not have been able to afford one.
Would this post not be better in a London(?) forum as the location is known - this one was intended for general register queries and comments. (Whatever happened to UKsearch?)
