    Default Tower Hamlets Burials

Picking the great brains on here again. A friend has asked me for help in locating her grandfathers final resting place. There was a family dispute and her side of the family never got to go to the funeral nor knew where it took place.

Her grandfather died Jul 1984 at Tower Hamlets

Is there anyway I can locate his grave as she wants to visit it (if possible).

    Many thanks

    Liane

You mean in the Borough of Tower Hamlets? Try the City of London Cemetery, Wanstead. I believe this is what Tower Hamlets Council recognise as their 'usual' cemetery but of course it could be anywhere the organisers chose. Where did the 'other' side of the family live?

Ooh thanks for that Peter - knew the great brains wouldn't let me down. I did mean the Borough of Tower Hamlets and as far as I am aware all the family were from this area (and still are) so I shall check this out.

    Thank you

Thanks Peter. The registers only go up to the 1860's so I need a little trip to the LMA - that's a saturday job.

A very useful link, Peter, and I see that for searches where the death occurred after 1956 there is no charge if the exact date of death is known.

However, as there seems to be a charge of a £100 where exact date of death is not known, unless Liane already knows the exact date, it might be a very good idea for her to obtain the death certificate before proceeding.

According to the scale of charges that I looked at they will search right up to the present day so presumably they must have the registers for the year you mentioned.

    Have a look at

and then scroll down to page 11.

You can also try Manor park Cemetery and crematorium...I am them regularly....and could do a serch if the person you are seeking has a headstone? P.M me the details if you like, and I will look next time I am there.

Thank you Lesley. My friend has ordered the death cert to obtain the exact date of death then I think she is going to contact the City of London cemetery. If nothing comes up with that then I may get back to you but thank you for your kind offer.
