Further to the above, some wild speculation ...

1851 census (held by TNA, Crown copyright)
    HO107/2058 folio 510 page 7
8 House, Attwood Place, St George Birmingham
Mary Reeves Head Widow 44 Button Wiper(?)
Mary Reeves Daur U 24 Button Coverer
Ann Reeves Daur U 17 Warehouse Woman
    Clifford Reeves [no relationship] 2
    (all born Warwickshire Birmingham)

1851 census (held by TNA, Crown copyright)
    HO107/2058 folio 644 page 3
Court No. 2, House 11 [off Great King Street], St George Birmingham
Thomas Clifford Head Mar 67 Formerly Button Maker born Warwickshire Bicknell
Lucy Clifford Wife Mar 66 Button Finisher born Staffordshire Handsworth
Edward Clifford Son U 20 Button Turner born Warwickshire Birmingham

These addresses seem to be very close, but there are other CLIFFORD candidates too.

The fact that there is no relationship entered for Clifford in 1851 made me wonder if he might actually be the illegitimate son of the daughter Mary, and brought up by his grandmother. But that would have entailed even more lies when the birth was registered. And I can see that Clifford is enumerated as the son of Mary senior in both 1861 and 1871.

As I said, it's just speculation.

Not that you'd be able to prove anything, of course. It's just an idea.
An idea that I hadn't considered. I'd considered all the others but must admit to not having researched that possibility.

IIRC correctly Brum Central Library is in the process of being rebuilt and there is only limited access for research. I may have to come back the subject later in the year.

    Thanks.
