thank you for your quick response, you can see I'm a beginner. I am trying to find information about the Jewish Simpsons, who lived in Liverpool from about the 1830s. They may be distant relatives. I have nothing in writing, all these stories handed down orally were part of family history. One story is that they were tailors and dressmakers. olsen

There was a marriage of a John Harris to Elizabeth Simpson on 19 Feb 1850. He was of full age and she was a minor. John's occupation was shown as tailor and his father Joseph was a farrier. Elizabeth's father, Henry Simpson, was a coachman.
If you have access to Ancestry you can download the a copy of the original entry in the marriage register.

The only way you can prove whether the John Harris who married Elizabeth Simpson is related is to trace your own ancestry back step by step with the help of marriage and birth certificates and census records.
Once you have your own pedigree you can research this John Harris and see if somewhere along the line there is a common ancestor. You stated that you are a beginner to family history so before you proceed you may wish to read our Beginners Guide to Family History which is completely free and contains some very useful tips.
