Post Elizabeth Falshaw born about 1774

I am searching for any connections or links to Elizabeth Falshaw. She married Francis Dupree/Duprey in St. Giles without Cripplegate( spinster of this parish) on 1 September 1798. I have searched those records to try to find her baptism record, without success, I searched back to 1768. Nor have I been able to find a marriage for any other Falshaws in that parish.

Does anyone have any information about this family. The results from a number of searches that Falshaw seems to originate from the York area; at least there tend to be a higher number of Falshaws in that location. This is obviously going to be a new brick wall for me. Any help much appreciated.

    Regards

There was an Elizabeth Dupre, a 65 year old charwoman in the 1841 census living at Whitechapel road, Tower Hamlets. She was enumerated as born in County (Middlesex).

I've had no luck finding a baptism though.

    Hi there,
there seem to be three FALSHAW couples baptising children in that parish in the time frame though. George FAL(L) SHAW and Ann, John and Ann, and the beautifully named Pearson FALSHAW and Rachel. Given that the name isn't common, it seems likely they are related. Brothers of Elizabeths?

St Giles Cripplegate is in the City of London, so it might be worth your looking at London Lives for possible family connections.

I suggest you use the Metaphone function when searching.

The marriage witnesses were Jn. CLARK and Wm AYSCOUGH. Have you tried investigating either of them, for any possibly family connections?

Also, the marriage was by licence, issued on 30 August through the Faculty Office. Have you checked the allegation, in case it contains anything of use? You can order a copy from the film held at the SoG library.

There are a couple of PCC wills which may be of interest:

Will of John Falshaw, gentleman of Saint Vedast alias Fosters, City of London (28 February 1764)
Will of John Falshaw, druggist of Old Fish Street, City of London (19 February 1803)

You can download these for £3.50 each from Documents Online.

A snippet from the Old Bailey Proceedings may relate to the John who was a druggist. A witness at the Old Bailey in 1793 testified that John Falshaw and John Horner 'live in Upper Thames-street, they are wholesale chymists and druggists'. (The defendant, Matthew Lowthorp, was found not guilty of stealing 35 lb. of beeswax from Falshaw & Horner.) See oldbaileyonline.org/forms/formMain.jsp (put www. in front)
