    Default Date question

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am looking for the birth certificate of an Alexander Aitken and I have found a baptism record dated january 1784 with Alexanders DOB stated as 16th inst. Am i right in thinking "inst" in this context means in the same month?

    Thanks

    Andy

Yes, 'inst.' is short for 'instant', the same month, while 'ult.' is short for 'ultimo', last month.

    Hi Andy,

inst is an abbreviation for instant (in or of the present month)

    Alexander's D.O.B. = 16 Jan 1784

You will not find a birth certificate for Alexander, certificates were not issued until 1837. The best you can hope for is what you have.
His baptism giving his date of birth as 16 Jan 1784. How lucky are you?
