    Folks,
On 1851 census,Edward Bracken Butcher b 1829 Windermere,Westmorland is noted as student in St Giles, address May Coll?Previous page shows Castle Court. Is May Coll? a residential building only?

It's crossed out for some reason on the previous page, but against schedule no 131, I think it says Magdalen Colledge (sic), which you'll see named on the "description of the district" page. A web search on the first name as: "vincent raven" "magdalen college" (including the quotes) finds an association of the said reverend gentleman with the college, and maybe other people there will match too if you try. I think there are alumni lists online also, but I'll leave the thrill of the chase to you, with no promises that the quarry won't turn out to be a goose.

I think it's Mag Coll, abbreviation for Magdalene College, rather than May Coll. Edward Bracken Butcher's birthplace was shown as Boughton, Norfolk, not Windermere which is the following entry.

Thank you both.I have added an update on Ancestry now having taken no regard for the place of birth previously. His grandfather,G and GG grandfather were all rectors of St Martins,Windermere so looks like Edward may have been following the same path, sadly he died in 1867.
