    Default ww1 soldier killed in action query

    hi, folks i was wondering ive got a ww1 soldier ancestor that was killed in action just wanted too know if death certificates were issued for soldiers killed in action ?? and ifso can you purchase copies and where from ...kev

    You can also search the index of overseas deaths for free at

    If you want to drill down past the index you have to pay on a pay per view basis..

    This is where I got the information for my KIA ancestor. You then order the certificate as normal from the GRO. BUT beware -- as said in the other forum linked to this post -- don't expect to find any information you don't already know. The certificates are compiled from information supplied to the overseas commissions by the army.

    Nevertheless, it gives you a formal record of the death and adds another piece of official documentation to your research.
