I'm sorry but that is not the correct interpretation.

John Lewis Drayton did not leave a will, he died intestate so he didn't express any opinion as to who should get the money.

Letters of administration were granted to the named people but their job as administrators was not to pocket the money but to distribute the estate in accordance with the intestacy laws.

Thank you Peter as I wasn't aware of Intestacy laws but please look at post #7.

Terry asked for details about James's estate which I provided with as much information as I could without seeing a will, or in this case, a letter of administration.

I think you said his father was dead and JLD was unmarried. Was his mother alive? If so I think she would have been entitled to the estate. Otherwise, it would have been split equally among all his siblings. You would need to check with someone who knows legal history.

Going out with friends this afternoon for Christmas drinks so I can see it getting worse. I'll have to write my address on the back of my hand so I'll know where I live.
