Thank you very much Robin. So he left it all to his 2 sisters, they must have been rolling in it.

    Thank you again.

    Glad to have helped!

£1200 from 1936 is multiplied immensely in today's money so they seem to have had a bit of spare change!

It's important to remember that the entries in the National Probate Calendar only show the names of the executors. You have to obtain a copy of the will to find out what was left to whom.

Not quite. The probate index only shows to whom probate was granted. In this case Jessie Morzella Havercroft and Dorothy May Ford were the executors of the will. If you want to know the beneficiaries of the will you will need to send for the will itself.

In my defence, I was only posting the details that I found on the probate calendar.

    There isn't a will. It's a grant of administration.

It certainly is, considering what Fred did for a living and having 7 children to bring up.

James left a tidy sum for the age he died at, 45.

James was the only son, the other 6 children were girls.

I’m not sure what Fred’s share of his fathers money was. His father had died 12 years earlier and nobody knows what he was worth. It was said that all his children got a share and there were 15 children and a wife to think of.

My grandfather was one of them but refused his share due to a family bust up. My grandfather had married beneath him apparently.

Thanks, Kerrywood. I didn't actually look at the record and was only making a general observation but in this case it would have been better if I'd checked the calendar.

If you're unsure what a grant of administration is, Terry, please shout.
