Default John FORD m. Betsey GREEN in St Mewan parish

    Hi there
I'm endeavouring to go a generation or two back from the present limit of my family database.

Can anyone help me identify the parents of John FORD (b. c1804 d. 15 Jun 1876) and Betsey GREEN (b. c1806 d. 10 Jun 1889) who were married in St Mewan Parish, 17 Mar 1827.

    1861 census lists as follows
John Ford,Head,M,56,,China Clay Lab,St Mewan Cornwall
    Betsey Ford,Wife,M,,54,,St Mewan Cornwall
Francis Ford,Son,,14,,China Clay Lab,St Mewan Cornwall
    Martha Ford,Dau,,,13,Scholar,St Mewan Cornwall
    Thomas Ford,Son,,10,,Scholar,St Mewan Cornwall

They are also listed in the 1851 census, but I keep hitting a brick wall when I try to find some information about their parents

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

1851 census of St Mewan shows John FORD as born c1804 at St Anthony, Cornwall. The 1871 census shows him as born St Stanley which I assume should be St Anthony as I cannot find any trace of a St Stanley in Cornwall. FMP Cornish Baptisms have the baptism of a John Rashleigh FORD on 14 August 1803 at St Anthony in Menage, parents Richard & Mary - perhaps worth further investigation?

FMP show the baptism of a Betsy GREEN at St Austell on 8 March 1812, parents John & Prudence and a baptism at St Columb Minor of a Betsey GREEN on 24 January 1810, parents John & Jane. It could be that Betsey moved to St Mewan as a young child and therefore always considered St Mewan as her birthplace. If this is the case, perhaps your best bet is to look through the parish registers of St Mewan to see if there is any clue on the actual marriage record such as the names of witnesses who could be kin to Betsey and also any GREEN burial records who could be of an age to be her parents or siblings.

    Good luck
