This was my great grandfather 1839-1907, he was a registrar of births and deaths, as was his father before him John Brierley 1809-1864. My question is where may i get a photo of him? as such a prominent person there must be one, checked the usual papers on his death ect, with no luck,, any ideas?![]()

If it was Dukinfield where your great grandfather was registrar, have you contacted the local council offices to see if they are able to help at all? Maybe there could have been an official "do" that he attended and photographs are hidden in their archives.
In 1974, Dukinfield became part of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and their contact details are in the left-hand sidebar of their home page:

They also have a family history centre that may be able to help:

hi, yes done all that, had picture in my mind that there would be a 'board' room where pictures hung on the walls, but alas not true, and if you mean the Ashton archive centre yes spent days in there,, got a photo of his house in Cheetham hill rd, but nothing of him, but i'm stubburnly sticking to the possibility there will be a photo of him somewhere, i even tried the masons!
