I was an apprentice at Parkin & Bacon, Neepsend, Sheffield during the period 1955 - 1961, a six year apprenticeship with low pay. I enjoyed my time there and the people I worked with Ruth and Maureen. I subsequently married and lived in Portsmouth, divorced, remarried and now live in Pleyben, Brittany, France.
Apprenticeships were getting rare when I started mine in 1955 but in later years became almost extinct!! I benefitted from mine as it gave me a trade and a purpose in life although I moved on in later life.
I am currently working on my family tree and have traced some of my ancestors back to the 1600's. I would be interested to know if there is anyone reading this who recognises my name.
