From that lead have found something which might be helpful in the Leeds Mercury of 6 Jan 1844:

"To prove that the monopolists do not monopolize all the agricultural talent, the Aylesbury News mentions the singular fact, that on Wednesday last, at the annual meeting of the Tring Agricultural Association, the prize of a silver cup to the occupier of the best cultivated farm, was awarded to a Mr. Daw, a staunch Free. Trader, the tenant and relative of Roger Lee, Esq., one of the warmest advocates for Free-Trade, and most unflinching of its adherents It is certainly semething in favour of the Anti-corn-law League, that the farm adjudged to be the best cultivated among the clever farmers of Hertfordshire should be the property of a member of that body. "

My suspicion is that Mr Daw is the husband of a sister of Roger's but I have not previously seen his name so this might be a positive lead.

Annoying that they don't give him a first name. I checked the 1841 and 1851 census for a Daw of Hertfordshire and didn't come up with any entries.

You might want to try DAWE.

I found a headstone inscription for James and Elizabeth.

    In Memory of
    James DAWE
    (of Town Farm Tring)
    who died January 31st 1865
    Aged 64 years
Also Elizabeth wife of the above
    who died March 18th 1869
    Aged 64 years
    Also Jane, their daughter
    who died Decr 12th 1856

    source is:

    www.
    tringteamparish.org.uk/stpap/Tring%20Churchyard%20Booklet.pdf

James Dawe left a will: probate date 28 March 1865

Elizabeth Dawe also left a will: probate date 9 October 1869. Probate was proved by the executors, Henry Tompkins of Tring the brother and James Dawe of Tring, the son. So, no Lee there, unfortunately.

Ancestry on James Dawe. He was the son of William Dawe and Hannah Tompkins.

FamilySearch reveals that William Dawe married Hannah Hopkins 20 August 1801, Tring.

It seems likely that the James Dawe we found is the one mentioned in the newspaper article, but it seems we're going to have to dig deeper to find the relationship to Roger Lee.

    Edit: oops, sorry

The maiden name of Roger LEE's wife was TOMPKINS (post #1).

I think you may have found the answer, t@nya, but not the one we'd hoped for: from the first post, Tompkins was the maiden name of Roger Lee's wife. So it looks as if the link with the Dawe family is to his wife.

P.S. as Kerrywood has already pointed out

I found another Dawe farmer at Tring in the 1841 census.

    Maidenhead Street, Tring
    HO107 piece 442 folio 5/14 page 25

William Dawe. 25. born 1816. Farmer. Born Hertfordshire
Elizabeth Green. 25. born 1816. F.S? (or maybe F.L?) (don't know what that means. not born in county
Sarah Green. 15. born 1826. F.S/F.L. not born in county

He doesn't appear in the 1851 census. I included this for completeness' sake, but I still think James Dawe is more likely.
